WHO WE ARE
We are a small, award-winning, Community Garden located in Santry, approximately 6 km north of Dublin city centre, and just 3 km south of Dublin Airport.
Our garden is a 3-acre site nestled within Santry Demesne Park. It has a rich history dating back to the 1700s! It is generously supported by Fingal County Council through its various grant schemes.
We have over one-hundred volunteer members. A Committee of volunteers oversees the running of the Garden. Fingal County Council has overall responsibility for the Garden and Santry Demense Park. The garden is open to the public for a few hours every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Access to the garden is through the park. The garden is not directly accessible by car.
We love to have visitors, so please stop by someday to say hello.
We also love to have new members! Ask one of our volunteers next time you're in the garden about how you can join and what's involved. See Our Membership page for more details.
And we love to make friends on Instagram and Facebook, so please follow us and give us a like!

WE'RE FAMOUS !!
A short documentary has been made about us!! Click below on the YouTube link below to watch it, it's less than 5 minutes long.
In November 2024, a young man named JP, a Film and TV Media Production student at Griffith College, needed to make a documentary for one of his college assignments. One weekend he came to the garden and asked if members would be willing to participate. A few of us agreed and he, along with his two fellow classmates, Guilherme and Matthew, arrived to the garden with their film and recording equipment. They produced a fabulous mini-documentary about the garden, how it was established, what we do here, and what it means to us. We think everyone should watch this and give it a like!
Director/Producer: Juan Pablo (JP) Delgado Obaldia
Director of Photography: Guilherme Aranha
Sound Recordist: Matthew Hassett
Thank you JP, Guilherme, and Matthew, for this wonderful production. We wish you every success with your studies!
Hollywood here we come!
Note from our Chairperson
Hello,
As Chairperson of Santry Community Garden, I am delighted to welcome you all to our new website! It's a wonderful resource for us to have to show you what we are all about. Not everyone knows about the garden, and people are often surprised and awestruck when they visit our space inside the old Victorian walled garden in Santry Demesne Park, which dates back to the 1800s.
I myself have been a member of the garden since 2020 and I'm privileged to have been elected Chairperson of the Santry Community Garden Committee for the third year running.
We have approximately one-hundred volunteer members in our garden community who help out when they can. Members enjoy being able to come and go as they please, and there is always something for people to participate in and enjoy when they come to the garden. The garden is a very peaceful space where you can come to relax and unwind, or work on your own, or join others in whatever job needs to be done.
As you will see from this site, we have been busy over the past few years, not just with gardening, but with all sorts of other projects that ensure the garden is maintained and kept in order. Undertaking these works would not be possible without the support from Fingal County Council who have awarded us several grants.
My favourite aspect of our Community Garden is the social aspect of what we have created here. The most important part of that are the friendships we have formed. We come here to garden, as well as to see each other, chat and laugh, and from time to time, enjoy some cakes! Our garden community is diverse and multi-cultural. On any given day you could meet a new member. And new members are always welcome. Another important aspect of our garden is that you don't need to be a gardener to be a member. Everyone simply learns as they go, and we don't worry about making mistakes.
It's very important to us that we keep the garden as a living, working, and welcoming space to ensure its sustainability and future viability. We are committed to making sure it is maintained and passed on to the next generation of gardeners. In order to do this, and everything else we do, we are guided by our Core Values Framework - Community, Belonging, Peace, Learning and Sustainability.
Before I sign off, I would like to thank you for visiting our website, but more importantly I would like to invite you to come and visit us in person in our garden, and consider becoming a member. Visitors are always welcome. Finally, I would like to commend our members for all they do. They really are the life and soul of the garden.
I look forward to your visit and welcoming you as a new member!
See you soon,
Vincent Kavanagh.

OUR VALUES
Everything we do is guided by our values - Community, Belonging, Learning, Peace and Sustainability.
Safety and Security
When visiting us at the garden, please note that children must be supervised by an adult at all times.
Cars, and the use of other motorized vehicles [i.e., motorbikes/motorcycles, e-scooters, and other personal powered transporters (PPTs)], are not permitted in the garden.
All dogs must be on a lead/leash.
The garden is a public place. Please take care of your personal belongings.
We have been fortunate to receive grants from The Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht through their Local Enhancement Programme, administered by Fingal County Council.
We have also received grants from Fingal County Council's Local Community Development Committee.
These grants allow us to undertake projects in the garden that would otherwise be impossible to undertake.
We are grateful for all the funding we have received over the years.
Our Website
We are delighted to ring in 2026 with our new website!
Sincerest thanks to all members who contributed to its design - Maria, Patricia, and Vince. Thank you to Martin and Tony for help sourcing old maps of the garden and Santry Demesne that help us tell our story. Thank you to all members whose photographs we have been able to include to showcase what we're all about - Ven, Tom, Kay, Brian, Noel, Ciarán and Jasper. And thanks to members who provided feedback and suggestions on earlier drafts - Brian, Paula, Timo, Jean, Marian, Martin, and Stephen.
It is an ongoing project and we will continue to add content going forward.
